Coconut oil is incredible! From healthy recipes to home remedies and beauty products, Coconut oil is the tops. Just take a look at all the amazing uses Coconut oil has:
A few of my favorite uses for Coconut oil (besides cooking of course!) are toothpaste, oil pulling and facial/body scrubs. While I normally use Sesame Seed Oil for oil pulling, Coconut Oil has been greatly revered as having wonderful antibacterial properties and can help kill the bacteria in your mouth that causes gum disease and cavities. Over the past few months I have been using (and perfecting) my own homemade toothpaste and I love it! My mouth feels cleaner, more refreshed – just as if I left the dentist! I don’t measure out my ingredients, but this is what I currently use to mix up a batch of toothpaste:
- Coconut Oil
- Baking Soda
- Sea Salt
- Peppermint Oil
- Peroxide
I’ve also been using Coconut oil in my facial scrubs. Coconut oil is amazing for restoring moisture and can even be used to deep condition your hair! While living in Colorado during the dry winter, I’ve noticed that my normal daily splash of Jojoba Oil to my face just wasn’t cutting it. P.S. if you didn’t know – Jojoba oil is a wonderful natural moisturizer too and is the closest thing in nature to the natural oil our skin produces. It’s so close in fact that our bodies can barely tell! I decided to kick things up a notch and made a wonderful hydrating facial scrub. Again, I just eyeballed the ingredients:
- Coconut Oil
- Tea Tree Oil
- Sugar in the Raw (or other larger crystal sugars – sugar is another great tool in your natural hydration arsenal. Salt tends to have a more drying effect.)
Just mix everything up together and apply a bit to your hands and scrub your face gently with it. Your face may feel a bit oil afterwards. It’s OK to use a mild cleaner or just towel dry afterwards if your skin is feeling really dry.
I’ve also read a great article recently about using Coconut Oil as a deodorant. I haven’t tried it yet, but would love to hear your feedback if you have! Check out the article here.
