What a difference a day makes!

All of us at one point or another has had dreams or things that we would like to accomplish, no matter how big or small. So often though, we remain “stuck” in our day to day because it’s comfortable. We find ourselves saying if such and such happens then I can be happy/successful/fill in the blank. The problem with this way of thinking is that we will ALWAYS be waiting for the right moment and the right circumstances and we’ll end up going nowhere fast.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am a huge culprit, at least until recently. Every single night before I went to bed I would make a resolution with myself that I was going to wake up earlier come hell or high water. Every morning rolled around and I hit that snooze button one, two, three times. Next thing you know it’s 2 hours later than I wanted to get up and now I am rushing around frazzled and stressed. Really annoying and definitely not improving my life quality!

The other day I was on the phone with my coach telling her how frustrating this has all been and if I can only figure out what was stopping me from not being able to do the things that I wanted to, then I can start fixing it and start doing. If. Then. Instead of getting on the merry-go-round with me, she just simply said “Just do it”. Huh? Really? That’s it?

Well, let me tell you that I clung to those words like a life line. I’ll be damned if I wasn’t going to make this happen. It’s been months of waking up too late, going to bed too late and wasting a lot of precious time that I can be doing a million other things instead of surfing Facebook. Armed with my new determination I started making small changes. I only allowed myself to snooze once (for 5 minutes), after that it was rise and shine no matter how much my mind protested. I started choosing activities that I wanted to include in my morning routine such as yoga and meditation and I just made it happen. I also wanted to start going to the gym on a more regular basis and taking breaks from my “home office” to visit my coffee shop office. I didn’t think about it, didn’t wonder if it was the right time, I just made it work and I am so so so grateful that I did. Life has been just that much more AMAZING!!

I’ve found that I don’t have to follow a schedule down to the minute to make this all work either. If something comes up I will simply rearrange. There is time in the day to accomplish everything but using your time wisely is the key. Ever hear the saying “Life beings at the end of your comfort zone”? We have to push past that familiarity in order to grow. This of a seed that you’ve planted. You dig a little hole, put the seed inside, give it water and wait. What if that seed decided that it was just too comfortable in the earth and decided not to bloom? It will never know that it is capable of growing up through the earth and will never feel the sunlight. Not only that, but it will never be able to show it’s beauty with the rest of the world. Think of yourself as that flower. If we don’t find the courage to step out of our comfort zone, we will never know what we are capable of, what we can change and how we can grow.

With springtime and all the life that is growing around us, let us make the commitment to ourselves to do at least ONE thing a day that will push us out of our comfort zones. Big or small, there are no rules, just get out there and do it.
