This past Wednesday I went to “Painting with a Twist” for my sister’s bachelorette and I have to say, I was pretty nervous. I’ve never painted before and I don’t consider myself to be a a visual artist. Musically – no problem, but if you want me to create anything with a pen-shaped like object we might have an issue. When we got there the staff was wonderfully warm and friendly. They assured us that our paintings would turn out beautifully no matter what and to just have fun with it. We all used the same tree template as our guide.
First we started out dancing and shaking out our nerves. We had a blast and I even got called up to lead a little dance demonstration! After that it was painting time! The instructors helped us with color choice and techniques; as for the rest we were on our own. I decided before I started that I was not going to have any attachment or think about how my painting should turn out. Instead I just went with it. I let the music and the energy of the room guide me. I let my brush move where it wanted to. I let the paint do the talking.
I have to say, I’m mighty pleased with the result. I’m also 99% sure that I am addicted to painting. Blank canvas please?
Is there something that you’d like to try, but have been afraid? Perhaps you have a similar story?
We’d love you hear from you!
