Springing into a new season

All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost;

The old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring;

Renewed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.”

J.R.R. Tolkien

Spring is such a beautiful, radiant time. Life is popping up from the ground, blossoming on trees, singing through the air and chittering through the forests. Spring is a time for fresh starts, for cleaning out the stale and stagnant, for breathing new creation into old ways. I wanted to share a few of my favourite quotes and uplifting words from some wise folks to ring in this brand new season.

Happy Spring Y’all!

“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep Spring from coming.”
― Pablo Neruda

“In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.”
― Margaret Atwood

“Is the spring coming?” he said. “What is it like?”…
“It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine…”
― Frances Hodgson BurnettThe Secret Garden

“On soft Spring nights I’ll stand in the yard under the stars – Something good will come out of all things yet – And it will be golden and eternal just like that – There’s no need to say another word.”
― Jack Kerouac

“She turned to the sunlight
    And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbor:
    “Winter is dead.”
― A.A. Milne

“Spring is the time of year when it is summer in the sun and winter in the shade.”
― Charles Dickens

“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke

“If people did not love one another, I really don’t see what use there would be in having any spring.”
― Victor HugoLes Misérables

“The splendor of the rose and the whiteness of the lily
do not rob the little violet of it’s scent nor the daisy of its simple charm.
If every tiny flower wanted to be a rose, spring would lose its loveliness.”
― Thérèse de Lisieux

“Spring is nature’s way of saying, Let’s party!”
― Robin Williams

My Newest Addiction

Back in April I tried something new…painting! I wouldn’t say it’s 100% new. I’ve dabbled in water colours and I’ve painted walls, but I never really experienced the thrill that was painting with acrylics! Just from this one evening, and maybe a little of the wine talking, I was IMG_0464hooked on painting! Well….hooked on the idea at least.

See, for months I found LOTS of excuses as to why I couldn’t start painting on my own. Supplies were too expensive. I didn’t know what I was doing. There were other artists out there better than me, what was the point. No matter what I came up with, bottom line, they were all excuses!!

This past month I took a quick trip to Burlington, VT., to visit with friends who had recently moved. During some down time on my trip, my friend suggested we paint a little while we waited for other friends to arrive.IMG_2374 We took out the paints and a few canvases and got our paint on! I was in a really quiet emotional space, so I just let my mind go blank and feel where the brush wanted to go. This is the result, and I have to say, I am really happy with it!! I couldn’t take it home with me on the plane, but my friend is mailing it to me! I can’t wait to see it hanging in the house!!

The weekend that I got back from my trip to Connecticut, I made a pact. After I caught up with that weeks work (another excuse?) I was going to march my butt to the craft store and get myself some painting supplies! This was an outlet that needed to be explored and expressed!! I am happy to report that I 100%, 10407965_10205180413862614_2409133529389238798_ncompletely, followed through with my plan!! I bought a pack of brushes, several different colours of paint and a few 5 x 7 canvas panels.

Again, without having any idea what I was going to paint, I let my mind wander. I played with the background colours and then finally drew a big red circle. “What are you going to do with that?” my husband had asked me. I was excited to see what would come forward. I was pleasantly surprised when a little Colorado pride popped up on the canvas! Now to find it a home on my walls!!

Over the weekend I browsed my local thrift store for some canvases I can up-cycle and scored 2 16×20 11046298_10205201626472916_6291592032504077498_ncanvas panels! Boy oh boy was I excited!!! The next night I went straight to work, looking forward to seeing what my imagination would conjure up this time. I feel like this painting has a somewhat mystical approach to it, and that might have been partly to do with the fact that I was watching Merlin while I was painting. P.S. if you haven’t watched that show, but are into fairy tales and/or Once Upon a Time, I highly suggest checking it out!! So much fun!!! I really really like how this painting came out, especially the moon. It was exactly how I saw it in my head. Planning on hanging this one over my bed. I just feel like I’m going to have the best dreams with it’s energy.

Is there something that you have been wanting to do, but keep putting off or coming up with excuses? You never know what you are able to create until you try. Feel free to share your story in the comments below. Let’s uplift and support each other to create magical and miraculous things!!

Sacred Spaces ~ Bedtime Edition

IMG_2318Between stimulus and response there is a space.

In that space is our power to choose our response.

In our response lies our growth and our freedom.

Victor Frankl

Mmmhmmm! Hallelujah and YES! There is something very special about having a place to be quiet and reflect. Back in December, I wrote a blog post about my special little work space altar. I love having a focal point close by that I can sit for a moment and re-gather. I have a similar spot on my nightstand.

Every evening I have a very simple, yet fulfilling, ritual. Last year I started writing in a 5-year journal. I have never been very good at keeping a journal, but this particular idea appealed to me. Every night I just write one sentence summarizing my day or the things I want to remember. Boom! Done! It’s quick, easy and each year and day that I do it, I am able to look back and reflect on the years past and how far I’ve come. The journal that I use is The Happiness Project One-Sentence Journal by Gretchen Rubin.

Another nightly ritual is reading the intended day out of Reflections in the Light by Shakti Gawain. This is my 2nd year reading it and I still find it incredibly insightful and inspiring. It is a daily thoughts and affirmations book with a gentle way of shifting your perspective and holding you accountable to always being your most authentic self. I absolutely love this book and highly recommend it if you feel inclined towards a daily affirmations book!

Every night before I go to sleep, I will pull a card from my Ascended Masters Oracle Card deck by Doreen Virtue. This is my own personal deck that I use just for me. I pull a card before I go to sleep to meditate on, dream about and instill into my life for the following day. I love Oracle cards and feel that they lend clarity and confidence to continuing to follow and grow on my life’s path.

Colorado has some drrrrrrrrry weather! Growing up at sea level all my life and fighting with humidity in the summer, this took a while and a few humidifiers to get used to. I have to sleep with a humidifier at night otherwise Good Morning cotton mouth and well, just pretty much lack of moisture seemingly everywhere. Recently I have been adding Young Living essential oils to the little tray in my humidifier. Most nights I will just choose a soothing Lavender, but I have been known to use a few combinations. One particular favourite night-time blend is Release and Marjoram. While I can’t specifically attest to it’s ability in aiding sleep, I do know that I would up feeling great and emotionally lighter! Hurray!!

Do you have a nightly routine? What are somethings that you like to include before you go to bed? Feel free to post in the comments below!!

Community starts at home

I love hosting community events at our home! We have at least 2 every month and they are all different with different people and always lots of fun! I wanted to create a safe atmosphere for other to get together without having the need to go out or spend money. Most of our events are pot luck and everyone contributes, which ensure that everyone is having the most fun possible!!! Here are some of the events that I host at our humble abode:

  • Game Night! – You guessed it! The focus is games of all shapes and sizes! Board games, card games, Wii games. Whatever floats our boats! It’s games until the cows come home!! 🙂
  • Brunch and House Concert series! – We just kicked this one off a few weeks ago and it was a smash! Everyone that came brought a brunch dish to share and we had a nice little breakfast together before we broke out the instruments. The weather was nice and warm, so we got to jam outside which was a real treat!
  • Clothing Swap! – This is an annual event that we host every year. It’s so much fun to clean out your closet and then get together with friends and swap away! We usually walk away with several sweet outfits and everything else leftover is donated.
  • Bake & Take! – This past December my friend Rachael and I hosted the 1st Bake and Take and let me tell you – we had such a good time! Several ladies got together for a full day of baking and cookie decorating and we each went home with several dozen cookies for the holidays. What a great day!

events collageSome other events that we have hosted* or are thinking about hosting in the coming year:

  • Seed Swap! – Bring your seeds and plan your gardens and swap seeds with friends!
  • Essential Oils Class!* – 101 on Essential Oils and uses for daily living and wellness!
  • Community Dinner! – Potluck dinner, for the sharing of merry company and happy memories!
  • World Hoop Day Fire Jam! – More spinning and more fun! Fire performances, fire pit and loves of hula hooping love!

I love being able to bring people together to connect and have fun! These are events I look forward to time and time again. Lots of good people getting together to celebrate life and play! Do you host events at your house? Please feel free to share in the comments below!!

Manifest and make it happen!

admin-ajax.phpWith the start of the new year comes resolutions to do and be better: eat healthier, exercise more, take up a hobby, etc. While all of those are fantastic, the resolution to become a gym rat overnight – when you’ve never liked the gym – isn’t one that’s likely to stick. I’ve tried to trick myself into that 3 times and had to fight my way out of a gym membership I never used because of it. Thankfully it seems, third time’s the charm!

I have BIG plans for 2015, but it’s impossible to keep them all remember in my head. I wanted to have them in a place where I saw them every single day, so I decided to get a little white board and hang it in my office. I’ve got all kinds of stuff on there, from travel plans to concerts I’d like to see and things I’d like to create more time for. Being able to visually see them everyday constantly brings it to the forefront of my attention encouraging me to take tiny steps every day towards achieving my goals!

CASE IN POINT #1: See the 3rd line from the bottom, Medicine Yoga Goddess? Well, my girl Jennifer Mountain makes these incredible felted sculptures and when she posted a picture of her Listening Yoga Medicine Goddess, I instantly fell in love. As beautiful as she was, I couldn’t immediately swing the price, so I put her on my manifestation board so that she can come to me in better circumstances. Almost a month later I found out Jennifer was having a sale in her Etsy shop. il_570xN.704826797_kanmTo tell you I did a happy dance doesn’t even begin to justify it! I WAS ECSTATIC! I messaged Jennifer immediately, paid her for this gorgeous beauty (which she was kind enough to put on hold for me until I got home) and she is now on her way to her new home!! Hooray!! Isn’t she GORGEOUS?!

CASE IN POINT #2: Back in October, we celebrated World Hoop Day. My intention was to go there with only ONE hoop so that I could bring the new hoop I was going to win in the raffle home with me (gotta let the universe know what you want, right?). Well, about half way through the raffle they called out my name!! Alright!! There were still quite a few hoops left to choose from, but I had had my eye on a particularly special one, created by none other than the fabulously talented Rachael, from Get Funny Boned hoops and bindis! (I also promised I would take pictures for her – sorry girl!! Hope they were worth the wait!!). This fast became my favourite hoop and I use it all the time! If you want to get your hands on your own Beetle Juicy Hoop or one of Rachael’s other signature strips, click on the picture below!

Manifesting the things that you want in life is as easy as 1, 2, 3! First you have to get clear on the things that you want to bring into your life. I find it really helpful to have my little white board on the wall in my office. I can see it every day and knowing that I am working towards bringing these fantastic things into my life makes me smile! Maybe a journal or vision board might work better for you. However you want to keep track, make sure to get clear on what you want and put it in a place where you can see it EVERY DAY! 🙂 Then take little baby steps to make those dreams come true! I know you can do it!! ❤

Do you have a story on how you manifested something in your life? Share it in the comments below. Let’s support each other and make 2015 our absolute best year yet!!

Quiet Quiet

Quiet Quiet

It’s time to take a step back

Quiet the mind, ease into the heart

Quiet, quiet – now that’s more like it

It’s hard to hear your souls whisper through the unending static

The greyed and tangled thread of courage, lifeless at my feet.

• • •

I’m standing so far out – it’s awkward and scary.

My love, my words are genuine – but still I feel rejected.

What am I doing wrong? I can only be me! My light, authentic.

So for now, I retreat, to the quiet, quiet.

• • •

It hurts, you know, to be brave and bold.

To speak your truth with open honesty and love.

Rising tall in the face of those unknowing jeers.

Feeling all alone in this quest for truth.

• • •

I’m letting go – for a moment.

I need to, this isn’t fair.

You will find me when you are ready.

And I will be there, arms wide

Open, breathing in the quiet, quiet.

Living in your loving.
