Ego vs. Love

4103598468_d9cdd6ee5d

I’m falling, falling, falling….

but my feet never touch the ground.

Be careful!” they say “Tread lightly!”

My next move mingled with their anguished sound.

• • •

I know in my head and I feel in my heart,

but how do you break the spell?

Stories rooted so deep since the day of our birth,

but so far from the truth, an imprisoning hell.

• • •

I refuse to be seduced by the fears and doubt,

keeping me silent and stale and safe.

Through their eyes I’m falling, straight down in a hole

but why should giving love be a mistake?

• • •

This is how we do it, it’s just the way it is.

The lies I’ve heard through lifetimes.

They bind and twist and shrink our hearts,

as we hide in the shadows, yet fearful of the dark.

• • •

Love is gentle and patient, whole and divine.

Like all of us beautiful souls, love doesn’t come in just one kind.

It grows and expands to all that we are,

so all that we are can fly!

• • •

So how can I deny you? It wouldn’t be fair.

To pretend not to love you so I can fit in?

So the whispers would cease because they don’t understand?

To live in a lie so the majority would win?

• • •

If I allowed that fate, I’ve betrayed myself,

for I can think of no greater loss,

than to shadow your love from another soul,

to save your ego from society’s frost.

The Power of a Song

There is no doubt that music can have a profound and positive impact on our life. It can help us celebrate our most joyous times and help us get through some of our worst. Music has always been an important and fulfilling force in my life, ever since I can remember. I started performing in theatre from a very early age, sang with jazz and rock bands alike, write and play my own music and even humbly sing in the shower. Through all of my life’s ups and downs, music has always been a driving force to see me through. These are some of the songs that I turn to on my happiest and saddest of days. I hope that you can also find happiness and solace with them. If you have a song that gives you strength or coaxes out your smile, post it in the comments below!

The little things

Phew! These past few weeks I have been busy, busy, busy! So many things to be done and the hours just fly by. How easy it can be to go through the whole day forgetting to eat (oops!) or take a break, or just breathe……..

10371887_10154200618245301_200856940957870458_n

Right now, I want to take a moment to thank myself and those around me for all the little, beautiful, perfect moments over the past few weeks amid all the chaos.

  • Being able to take a few moments to play in my garden every morning
  • Having the space in the house to pick up my hoop and spin out the stress!
  • Mini snuggle breaks with hubby during particularly long and trying days.
  • Having delicious $2 tacos 5 minutes from the house for days I don’t want to cook (and there have been a few!)
  • For my hubby helping out where he can – last week he even cleaned the whole house!
  • For warm sunny Colorado days and big, bold, blue skies. Even if I don’t always get outside, it sure provides beautiful scenery & happiness.
  • For stolen moments reading before bed
  • For uplifting and positive videos to help bring smiles and motivation to my day
  • Dancing and infectious beats!
  • For my stones, my oracle cards, and my Young Living essential oils
  • For loving and supportive friends
  • For work/play dates and weekend shenanigans
  • For hugs and kisses and laughter (and tears!)
  • For being alive, for experiencing life, for the ability to love.

Sometimes, all it takes to get your through are those tiny moments. Tiny moments that add up in a big BIG way!

What are you grateful for?

September Recipe: Yummy, Goldeny, Cheesy Baked Cauliflower Tots

I LOOOOOVE tater tots. They are in a food group all their own. I don’t know what it is about them. Perhaps it’s the golden crispy goodness. Perhaps it’s the fact that they just melt in your mouth. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s guilty pleasure food in it’s most accessible and crunchy form. Whatever it is, I am hooked!

There are times that I go a little over board with the tater tot cravings and so this little guy steps in QUITE nicely! I recently stumbled across a pin a few weeks ago and instantly started salivating. This past weekend my friend and I attempted to make the recipe for a movie night with friends. At the time, I couldn’t find my pin, so we ended up concocting our own. Either way, they came out delicious. Nom nom nom!

Yummy, Goldeny, Cheesy Cauliflower Tots
(adapted)

Ingredients:
1/2 large head caulflower, coarsely chopped
1/3 cup cheddar
1/4 cup grated Parmesan or Romano cheese
2 T coconut flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. seasoning of your choice
Black pepper to taste
1 egg

Instructions: Preheat oven to 400F.  Spray a mini muffin pan (like this one) with non-stick spray or grease with butter.

Removing the leaves first, coarsely chop the cauliflower and steam in a pan with a little bit of water until tender. Drain.
With a food processor or hand held blender, add the cauliflower, and pulse until the cauliflower is finely chopped but still slightly chunky.  (Do not over process – or you might end up with soup!)  Be sure to drain off any excess water.
Put finely chopped cauliflower into a bowl and add the cheeses, coconut flour, salt & pepper, seasonings. Stir until all ingredients are well-combined.  Next, add the egg and stir until the ingredients are mostly coated with egg.
Scoop out 1in round spoonfuls of the mixture and drop it in the mini muffin pan and bake 15 minutes.  Carefully turn each cauliflower tot over in the muffin tin and bake 15 minutes more, making sure to create a delicious crunchy goldenness on all sides.  For the most enjoyment, serve hot hot hot with ketchup, honey mustard, or any other favourite dipping sauce!
